2.1 The Agora 'document' term

The term 'document' describes the real digital object within an Agora collection. Several aspects comprises an Agora document. It integrates the logical structure, the physical structure and workflow informations of the particular object. Logical structure (logical tree) refers to the relation of elements within the document hierarchy. Physical structure (physical tree) refers to the relation to images and other digital objects as audio and video files. Also fulltext data can be integrated here. In concrete terms this means we have different display formats of the digital document. Usaully we will have the following components:

  • scanned pages (or other digital objects)

  • Description of the document metadatd (author, title, year of publication, etc.)

  • Description of structure (chapter, sub-chapter, table of contents, preface, etc.)

  • fulltext data

  • References of all components (e.G. which scanned page refers to chapter 1 and which page refers to the last page?)

The XML format keeps together all those different parts resp. different perceptions of the document.
