An exhibition concept was developed for the office space of a client with a high-end art collection. Previously, works by renowned artists had been displayed in a simply designed corridor, limiting their visual impact. The aim was to transform the space into a setting dedicated to the presentation of the artworks while creating an atmosphere that reflects the character and quality of the collection.
The concept focuses on contrast, lighting, and spatial depth to place the artworks center stage.
Design Concept – Contrast and Curated Presentation
The design is based on a deliberately restrained architectural backdrop. The floor, walls, and ceiling were finished in a deep, near-black tone. This dark palette minimizes visual distractions while adding depth and elegance to the space. At the same time, the colors, textures, and fine details of the paintings become significantly more vivid, allowing the artworks to command full attention.
Lighting is a key element of the concept. Custom-designed spotlights, integrated into a discreet ceiling track, illuminate each artwork with precision. The carefully directed lighting creates clear focal points, enhances the presence of every piece of art, and reinforces the refined atmosphere of the space.
The concept is further complemented by a fully mirrored wall facing the adjacent meeting room. The reflection visually extends the corridor, enhances the sense of depth, and reveals ever-changing perspectives of the displayed works of art. This dynamic interplay between architecture and art gives the space a unique sense of movement and openness.
A particularly distinctive feature is the flush wallpaper door leading to the meeting room. When closed, it blends almost seamlessly into the wall, preserving the clean, uninterrupted design of the space. Its electrically operated opening introduces an unexpected element of surprise, evoking a scene from a spy film, where Visitors disappear behind the wall at the push of a button. This exceptional detail adds a sense of intrigue while reinforcing the exclusive character of the overall design.
Result
The concept was presented through detailed 3D visualizations and convinced the Client already during the design phase. What was once a purely functional corridor has been transformed into a refined exhibition space where architecture, lighting, and materiality work together to enhance the presentation of the art. The design creates a prestigious atmosphere and provides the collection with the architectural setting it deserves.
